The global manufacturing landscape is changing. Poor quality from products manufactured overseas have encouraged us Brits to look closer to home when it comes to purchasing.

When you factor in the well-publicised poor working conditions in overseas factories and a new found awareness of carbon footprints, it is no surprise that today, almost 75% of British people now feel as though it is important to buy British-made products.

Below is a list of reasons why we, as a UK manufacturer feel people may be switching back to British products.

As we have mentioned, quality is becoming more and more vital to British consumers, hence their recent switch back to UK manufactured products. Because British manufacturers are passionate about their products, they undertake regular quality checks and ensure that every item is finished to the same high standard.

Here at Red Bus Cartridges, we do absolutely everything in-house at our purpose built Lincolnshire factory. This allows us to access our products throughout the full production lifecycle before marketing and eventually selling.

In a nutshell, this prevents UK manufacturers from creating and selling ‘fake’ or ‘copy’ products, meaning you are not risking buying such products when purchasing from British made items.

Being able to speak to someone quickly, and with as little fuss as possible is always important as a consumer. When buying British, you can reap the rewards from a UK based head office, operating with convenient hours. Also, with added instant features such as live chat, getting an urgent problem solved has never been easier.

Buying British products ultimately reduces the frequency of overseas shipping, which in turn helps the environment. Many cheaper alternatives to products manufactured in Britain come from Asia, all of which need to be imported – a process that can be harmful to the environment due to the lengthy supply chains involved in shipping.

We’ve all bought something online for a price so cheap, it’s almost too good to be true. Turns out, that most of the time it is. This is due to the lengthy delivery times given by many overseas companies, in some cases being a number of months as opposed to days.

If supporting UK employment and entrepreneurs is important to you, then buying British is an absolute must. Purchasing from a UK manufacturer undoubtedly helps to support Britain’s economy, meaning that in turn, a company’s legacy is preserved and maintained.

In 2017, are we really as savvy about recycling, reusing and reducing our impact on the environment as we’d like to think? We can be confident about how to deal with most household waste for example, but there are items that you probably use on a daily basis at home, at school or in the office that could be recycled multiple times and benefit both your pocket as well as the environment.

One such example is laser toner cartridges. Approximately 60 million are sold in Europe alone each year, and yet only a small percentage (around 25%) of those cartridges actually go onto to be remanufactured.  The process of remanufacturing is one that many people may still not be fully aware of, but one that is worthwhile knowing a little about.

Once an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) toner cartridge is sent to be recycled, there are a number of processes it goes through before it can be given a new lease of life as a remanufactured product.

Firstly, the cartridge is tested to ensure that it is fully functional before any remnants of existing toner powder are removed and the cartridge is thoroughly cleaned.  Secondly, any worn or damaged parts are identified and then replaced to ensure that the finished product is as close to the original as possible.  Finally, the cartridge is refilled using a specially formulated toner powder and is subject to a number of quality and print performance tests before it can be packaged and sold.

Something else you may be interested to hear is that remanufactured toner cartridges – as well as being environmentally friendly – can be much cheaper than their original counterparts.  This isn’t to say that there has to be a compromise in quality though; remanufactured toners can match, and often exceed the page yield of an OEM, and they fit and function exactly the same way in your printer.

It sounds straight forward doesn’t it? It seems like a process that it quite transparent, and not only does it prevent toner cartridges ending up in landfill, but because remanufacturing companies such as Red Bus Cartridges only repair the elements of a cartridge that are damaged or worn, the creation of waste is reduced.  Furthermore, as they state that they produce everything in one place, under one roof, they not only have complete control over the production process, but it goes a long way in helping to reduce their carbon footprint too.

So, now you know how OEM toner cartridges can be recycled and given a renewed purpose in (office stationery) life through the process of remanufacturing. You also know that you can save money in comparison to buying an original cartridge, so should you be inclined to want to save money as well as the planet, a remanufactured cartridge would be the way to go.

We all know someone who is loyal to a brand, who will not use an alternative product because what they use works well and anything that is cheaper or labelled an alternative just wouldn’t be good enough, right? Wrong!

There are alternative products out there that are cheaper to buy, don’t need to be replaced as often, and work just as well - if not better – than the ‘original’ product.

A good example of this is remanufactured toner cartridges, so why do consumers still have their doubts? Perhaps they have had a bad experience with buying a cheaper alternative and the phrase ‘you get what you pay for’ is now permanently etched in their mind.

Similarly, they might believe that nothing can compare to the quality of what they have already, or, maybe it’s because the vast majority of people don’t really understand the difference between a remanufactured cartridge and a compatible one.  However, unless they work in an industry that produces, uses or sells these products, why should they know the difference?

Consumers are not asking for the world, they simply want a fully functional, good quality, reasonably priced toner cartridge that works in their printer.  So, now to the facts, what is the difference between remanufactured and compatible?

Remanufactured cartridges, like the ones sold through The Red Bus Cartridge Company, are original cartridges (from HP, Brother, Canon and Kodak for example), that are cleaned, any worn or damaged parts are replaced so that performance is not affected, and then refilled and tested before being sold.

They are environmentally friendly because of the way in which they are produced, and in some cases, can be up to 70% cheaper than most originals without quality or performance as the compromise.

Compatible cartridges are created as copies of an OEM (original equipment manufacturer). Companies will create a mould that mirrors the original cartridge. Often, they can be made from inferior materials and is this is one of the main reasons they are priced so cheaply.

There can be other issues with compatible cartridges however, such as copyright infringement and poor print quality as well as a lack of information or support for the products once they are sold.

In summary, it really does come down to doing your research; if you have any doubts about remanufactured toner cartridges then ask questions, and ultimately don’t be afraid to try something different because ‘new’ can be good, for your pocket, for the environment, for your printer.

Buying a remanufactured printer cartridge from The Red Bus Cartridge Company will not only save you on printing costs, but you will also be contributing to a greener environment by using a recycled product.

Our cartridges offer an environmentally friendly alternative as they’re remanufactured in the England which enables us to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum and create a closed loop recycling system as they can be refurbished again and again.

The Red Bus Cartridge Company are extremely proud to be selling a British remanufactured product.

Our purpose built factory in Boston, Lincolnshire is where all of the remanufactured toner cartridges are made and is home to a team of dedicated employees with a wealth of diverse skills. Everything from research & development to packaging design is completed in Boston.

As a proud British online seller we continue to support the British economy and remanufacturing industry.

The internet is flooded with companies that offer compatible cartridges at rock bottom prices and, following extensive research of copy compatible products we have found that the old adage, ‘you get what you pay for’ certainly applies.

Only the best components are used in the remanufactured cartridges that we sell and guarantees you will be purchasing a robust product that will perform exactly the same as an original cartridge.

Many ‘copy’ compatible cartridges do not meet British manufacturing standards and are produced with stolen designs and a quality that cannot always be trusted. The Body Coach, Joe Wicks hit the headlines recently, with his ‘Lean in 15’ cookery books, and to compliment this healthy eating program, he has released a workout DVD with short, sharp workouts ranging from 15-35 minutes. All of which can be done within the comfort of your own home and without any equipment.

Alternatively, if you want to build a bit of muscle, then buy yourself a couple of dumbbells, a workout bench and research some home workouts.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some trainers and lycra then running is completely free. Pound that pavement and your bank balance will rise as quickly as your heart rate.

Everyone deserves a treat now and again – right?

You will even find that companies like Pizza Express have a dedicated section on their own site for voucher codes!

Ahead of ‘Impvasion’ tomorrow, we take a look back to when our local team, Boston United, upset the odds back in 1955.

Lincoln City FC travel to Arsenal for their FA Cup quarter final tie tomorrow evening and will be looking to cause arguably the biggest shock in the competition’s history.

With giant killings on the mind, we are turning our attentions to a huge shock involving another Lincolnshire team, which took place over 60 years ago.

Boston United are the Red Bus Cartridge Company’s local team, with their York Street Stadium being just a five minute drive from our Marsh Lane headquarters.

United were drawn to face fellow Midlands side Derby County away from home in the second round back in 1955, with the game taking place on December 10th of that year.

So, with a win bonus of a reported £35 per player (£500 in today’s money) up for stake, the Boston side, containing six former Derby personnel made the 70 mile journey to the Baseball Ground, ready to cause an upset.

Over 23,000 people watched on in sheer disbelief as United recorded a staggering 1-6 win, with goals from Geoff Hazledine, Ray Wilkins (not that one) and Johnny Birkbeck.

The result certainly shocked the entire UK footballing population, especially after the News Chronicle had stated that "Of all the tiny clubs fighting for Cup glory this weekend, none has a dimmer chance than Boston".

It was Derby County's first home defeat of the season and their third heaviest defeat ever in the competition.

Geoff Hazledine, who got a hat-trick that day, emphasized how much self-belief was in the Boston camp: "I played my best individual game that day. We knew we were going to win. Most of us were old Derby players, throw-outs if you like. We had a point to make. On the day we had more skill and talent than they had. We attacked them from the first minute, and I could see the looks of astonishment on their faces as we piled forward. With any luck we could have got ten that day!"

The result is still a record away FA Cup win by a non-league team against league opponents.

Lincoln City FC and Boston United are separated by just over 30 miles. If the Imps use this 1955 result as motivation and channel their Boston counterparts from 60 years ago, then they might just cause a surprise tomorrow.

We want to wish the Imps the best of luck and no matter the result, they have already done Lincolnshire proud!

The Five Most Annoying Things About Working In An Office

Almost a quarter of the United Kingdom’s current population works in an office environment, meaning around 16 million of us have to endure the annoying habits of our co-workers on a daily basis. After a slightly heated conversation at our HQ earlier today, we have selected five of the most annoying things that occur the office environment!

Loud Typing

The tell-tale sign of someone who is trying to look busier than they actually are. Keyboards weren’t designed to be beaten like drums, so why on earth do people feel the need to do so?

Washing Up

Or the lack of it in most cases. There is nothing more off putting than walking into the kitchen to prepare your lunch to find a sink full of smelly, unwashed cups and dishes. On the other hand, there is nothing worse than when you see your name on that dreading washing-up rota. Talk about six of one, half a dozen of the other!

So you’re having an in-depth conversation (work related, obviously) with the colleague next to you and they seem a little quieter than usual. Could it be that what you have just said has had such an impact on them that they are actually left speechless? No. You turn your head to find that they headphones in. Unbelievable.

Awkward Hot Drink Requirements

You’ve taken the time out of your busy day to make a hot drink and out of courtesy, you have offered others in the office one too. Obviously you’ve done this 15 minutes after the last round was made to save having to make anyone else a cup, however your luck is well and truly out. Somebody from accounts wants you to boil some water, drop in a licorice and peppermint tea bag before telling you to ‘let it infuse’ for 3-4 minutes. Typical.

Seeing the administrator walk around the office with an oversized novelty birthday card means one thing – it’s time to get your wallet or purse out! Don’t even think about refusing either, unless you want be the talk of the office for the next week.

Disagree? Got anything you would like to add to this list? Comment below or head to the @redbuscartridge twitter page!
